What do you think of this philosophy about government?

perfectlybaked asked:
Police negotiators will try to talk a person out of suicide, if they get the chance (If they are called on). Conservative politicians will make it illegal for euthanasia (doctor-assisted suicide), and jail a person for doing it, but the government cannot guarantee the happiness of its citizens, monetarily, socially, or otherwise. A person who is single and wants to be married cannot ask the government for any kind of effective help in this. So, what gives the government the right to prevent a miserable citizen from having a pleasant death? If euthanasia were legal, and a legal business (not just for the chronically ill), there might be less crime, because miserable people wouldn’t be forced to live. Your thoughts? How is it OK for the government to keep us from a pleasant, deliberate demise, when they won’t even help us with what we need?

How can I vote while out of state on a job assignment?
January 5th, 2009
Tri asked:
I am a travel nurse and am currently out of state on a contract assignment. I will not be able to return home to vote. A neighbor mentioned registering online to vote thru some kind of absentee ballot. I’m so unfamiliar with that. I haven’t voted since Bill Clinton (i know, i need to be spanked) and I know I do need to register again. Anyone have any idea of what I need to do in order to be able to vote?? Thanks in advance and have a good day!

What happens when one branch of government assumes too much power?

Vagyok C4 asked:
In a system where we have three separate but equal branches of government, what give the supreme court the power to overrule the will of the other two branches of government?
In a system where we have three separate but equal branches of government, what give the supreme court the power to overrule the will of the other two branches of government?
The legislative and executive branch came together (at the request of the judicial branch) and decided what to do with the gitmo detainees.
Now the judicial branch decides to overrule this act.
What recourse do the other two equal branches of government have when the judicial branch assumes too much power?
Zach: This is not true… the supreme court has already assumed more power. My question is specifically.. where is the check and balance here?
